The Pietermaritzburg & Midlands Chamber of Business (PMCB) is a voluntary association of business enterprises that came into being on the 25 July 2019, as a result of a decision to broaden the mandate of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business (PCB), to include the Midlands area. The Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business (PCB) was established on 1 August 2002 as a result of the unification of the Midlands Black Business Chamber, the Pietermaritzburg Sakekamer and the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Commerce & Industries, all of which disbanded to form the new body. The PMCB is a comprehensively united business organisation enjoying wide credibility and the full confidence of government at all levels.
The PMCB is a registered Non-profit Company in terms of the Companies Act no. 71 of 2008 and a registered Non-profit Organisation (027-519-NPO). It is active within the national ambit of Organised Business and is fully committed to the unity of business at provincial and national levels.
The PMCB is an active member of the KwaZulu-Natal Business Chambers Council (KBCC) of which the PMCB CEO, Melanie Veness is Treasurer and the KZN Growth Coalition. The PMCB CEO, Melanie Veness, also serves on the KZN Economic Council under MEC Siboniso Duma.
The PMCB is a founding member of the Association of South African Chambers (ASAC), an alliance formed by the largest chambers in South Africa to give voice to shared business challenges and represent the mandated and agreed common interests of members on national issues of a policy and/or regulatory nature. CEO Melanie Veness is the current Chairperson of ASAC.
The PMCB is linked to the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC) and the World Chambers Federation (WCF) through its membership of the International Chambers of Commerce of South Africa (ICCSA).
To be the united voice of business in the Pietermaritzburg & Midlands area, representing and supporting businesses of all sizes and across sectors, in order that we might facilitate economic and enterprise development.
