Seminar – Edu-TaxBack

Presentation by: Ilan Rabinowitz, Director, Stratfin Solutions
(Stratfin Solutions are a professional accounting and financial consulting firm based in Johannesburg)

Edu-Taxback facilitates qualifying employees to earn more money on a monthly basis, based on the cost to educate their children and relatives, utilizing a tax break available in the Income Tax Act.

How does it work?
The employer grants the employee a “tax-free bursary” as part of their remuneration package, to take into account eligible education expenses incurred.

Who qualifies for this?

Those who earned more than R100 000 but less than R600 000 gross remuneration in the last tax year may qualify.

What education costs are covered?
• School and university fees from Grade R to doctoral level
• Includes registration costs, uniforms, text books, stationery, residence and transport costs, but limited to R20 000 per relative for school and R60 000 pp for higher education.
How much does Edu-TaxBack cost?

No charge to the employer. The employee is charged an admin fee based on the tax that is saved.

How does it work?

Stratfin Edu-Taxback will do an assessment, prepare a contract for you to sign, do presentations and training, as well as the payroll update. They will also provide an ongoing audit process to ensure that all parties adhere to the legislation.
