ENGAGEMENT WITH THE COMPETITION COMMISSIONER
Dear Members
You are invited to an engagement with members of the Competition Commission, who are looking to discuss the following issues relating to competitiveness in the retail sector (FMCG specifically):
• Exclusive lease agreements in shopping centres;
• Regulatory barriers – provincial regulations and municipal bylaws;
• The impact of buyer power (specifically supermarkets on suppliers i.e. trade agreements) and buyer groups;
• Entry of supermarkets into township/rural and peri-urban areas; and
• Value chains – to understand concerns about potential anti-competitive behaviour, specifically with regard to staple foods..
Date: Tuesday 4th July 2017,
Time: 10h00
Venue: Chamber House, Royal Showgrounds
No Charge
The Commission is holding Public Hearings regarding competitiveness in the retail sector all week next week at the ICC in Durban – Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm.
