LEADERSHIP NETWORK

Invites you to a presentation on

CREATING SUSTAINABLE VALUE : DOING WELL BY DOING GOOD

Presented by : Mike Ward: Director and Owner of CSV

“There can be few people in business today who could doubt that social and environmental sustainability will be the defining business drivers for multinational corporations in the first part of the 21st century.”(Group CEO of Unilever)
Over 190 countries, including South Africa, ratified both the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Accord at the end of 2015. These global commitments, some of which are legally binding, will have an impact on business through local and international supply chains, government policy and changing consumer demands. Drawing on international and local examples, this presentation will explore the potential for businesses to enhance shareholder value while simultaneously contributing to social and environmental good. In particular, the role of leadership and the importance of organisational learning will be opened up for discussion during this leadership forum.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Mike Ward has worked in the environmental sector for over 20 years. He has served as an Executive Director on a number of Boards for the past seven years including the board of one of South Africa’s oldest and largest Environmental NGOs. Mike has worked in South Africa and Sweden and has developed and implemented sustainability related capacity building programs in sub-Saharan Africa, Sweden, India and China. Mike has a Masters in Environmental Science from Lund University in Sweden and a MBA from Henley Management College in the UK. He is the holder of a National Research Foundation scholarship focused on organisational learning and the creation of sustainable value in business. In addition to working with a national consortium to build the capacity of the South African government to embed ‘green’ principles into their procurement, Mike is passionate about working with businesses to create value through a focus on environmental sustainability and social inclusivity.

In his spare time Mike enjoys competing in endurance mountain biking events and in the 2015 Freedom Challenge narrowly missed Martin Dreyer’s record by a week.
