The Pietermaritzburg & Midlands Chamber of Business is justifiably proud of eBizBlitz, the daily newsletter distributed to members and the greater business community. The only endeavour of its kind among chambers in South Africa, its origins date back to an informal chat in Andrew Layman’s office in 2010. Conceived to replace the loss-making Biz News, eBB has evolved into a valuable revenue stream for PCB and is also serving as a credible mouthpiece for the organisation. eBB’s success is based on a beguilingly simple formula that holds a number of lessons for business.

About the Speaker
Derek wears several hats, but is probably best known for his work as a business journalist, includung editing eBizBlitz. Derek is also a prolific freelancer, the KZN correspondent for Bloomberg, and a contributor to online adventure riding magazine ADVPulse. The hats stacked on Derek’s head speak of his chequered background in media, tourism, education, entrepreneurship, the environment, and sport. A self-confessed challenge addict, he loves nothing better than forging opportunities under tough circumstances. When not in front of his computer, he can be found fiddling with his motorcycles, watching his trees grow, and walking the dogs.
